Philippine Mission 2010

This year's mission to the Philippines was such a wonderful success.  We brought twelve missionaries plus myself to the Island of Luzon where over 50 million people live.  We were opening a new area which has it's own challenges including two new dialects to learn.  We worked with our new directors for Luzon, Cedric and Joy Panis, who worked hard to make the whole trip a success.  The Lord blessed us with clear weather, safe passage, and many miraculous healings during the trip.

"And these signs will accompany those who believe......they will place their  hands on sick people and they will get well."

Mark 16:17a,18b

Spinal Chord injury healed

The man in the blue shirt was healed of a spinal chord injury.  He was carried in by family member to be prayed for.  He had sustained a spinal chord injury in an industrial accident.  In most cases they don't have insurance in the Philippines to pay for the medical so people just suffer the rest of their lives.  During the service Reuben Estrada prayed for this man and he got up and started walking around.  The next thing Reuben saw was the man dancing.  We assume that God must have done a reconstructive miracle on his muscles as well.  The people in the photo are his happy family members.

"Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it."

Matthew 16:20

American Band

To my knowledge, we are the first team to bring an American band with our team.  This was wonderful in that it drew more attention to us bringing in more individuals to be saved and healed as well as giving the American and Philippine musicians a chance to interact.  It worked out really well and was a blessing all the way around.  The American band members were (from left to right) Reuben Estrada, Debbi Schreib, Alyssa Schreib, and Gary Schreib.  Our drummer was a Philippine teenager named Marvin who became like family to us.

The Children are First

We always see the children come first to our crusades.  Jesus told us that unless we come as little children we never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  This plays itself out night after night as the children lead the way and the parents follow.  We have a year round children's ministry in the Philippines that you can read about at the following link:

Children's Ministry

And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Deaf Mute Man Healed

On our first Sunday morning we were in a church in San Juan.  Tamie Osterlund was preaching a great message.  When the message was over she and Debbie and Alyssa Schreib prayed for a deaf mute man named Gerald.  He was instantly healed and could hear and speak.  Our host pastor cried out "I heard him speak" with a shocked look on his face.  His friend Ronald, another  deaf mute, was not healed but the Lord told me he would heal him the next day.  I did not know how.  The next day the team went to a prison.   Ronald went with them and he was prayed for again.  He heard his name for the first time in his life and was able to make some sounds.  Both of these men go to our host pastor's church so he knows them well.

"So he replied to the messengers, "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."
Luke 7:22 & 23

High School Ministry

Each year we do our best to go to the schools.  Unlike American schools, Philippine schools don't try to keep God out.  They have scriptures on their walls and are honored to have American Missionaries speak the Good News to them.  In the photo here I am addressing the whole school.  After this the missionaries went into each classroom to preach the Gospel, do an altar call, and pray with each student.

"The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the Good News is preached to the poor."

River Rock mission trips are not spectator sports.  Each missionary prays for the sick, preaches in churches, goes to prisons and schools leading many to faith in Christ, gives testimonies and greetings, and leaves a legacy of spiritual children and healed bodies.  In the process their lives are changed forever by the power of Christ.  Do you long to live a life of life changing power?  If your answer is yes I encourage you to plan to join us for our next trip.

"I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power."
I Corinthians 2:3-5

Friends

One of the most rewarding parts of foreign missions is making friends with others from around the world.  I have made friends on every trip and still keep in touch with a pastor that I met on my first trip deep in the jungles of Leyte.  In fact, he is building a church in his village now.  The very next village down the gravel road is controlled by communist guerrillas.  In the photo on the right missionaries Machelle and Barbara are seen with our excellent cook Mila and our co-director Joy.  Both of these women took such great care of us while we were in the country.

The Harvest

God has sent us out to harvest the fields.  On this trip we ministered to a total of 4,141 people.  3,284 responded positively to the Gospel message making Jesus Lord of their lives.  We prayed for 3,359 people.  43 Bible studies were started of which some will turn into churches.  We will have team members following up with these Bibles studies encouraging them towards becoming churches.  In addition, 2 churches were started while we were in the Philippines meeting for the first time on Sunday February 21st.

I encourage you to watch the award winning short film (6 minutes) at the link below.  It is a life changer.

"Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest."

Barclay Tait
Barclay Tait Preaching God's Word

To the Philippines and Missionaries with Love

By Barclay Tate

Praise God to the Lord for this glorious day, may prayer to the Lord just have your way

We honor the leaders and pastors , may all they do prevail

As they spread God's good news, remember His love will never fail

For all of the missionaries lives, or so it seems

God has a plan for us and the Philippines

Back in the states Pastor Eric said "Did you know?"

The Philippines is a special land, would you like to go?

After praying to the Father it seemed to be a win

We used our faith and the funds came in

I flew 9,000 miles on Korean Air

Landed in Manila, the devil beware

First night in your country, very little sleep sleep

But driving in your country, we learned Beep Beep

Our Bus was cold cold, a lot to swallow swallow

It was so cold, like much Halo Halo

What a special Blessing, we met Cedric and Joy

Learned many new words, like barangay and baboy

Marvin and the team worked hard and oh so nice

But don't forget to serve them their daily rice

In God's heart is a special place, reserved for his special one, we call her Grace

Grace sings with the angels, it's a beautiful sight,

She shines with God's glory, it's a glorious light.

Our meals were the best, such a great a deal-a

Thanks to our cook, sister dancing Mila

Machelle was such a blessing, many songs she would sing

But one song in her heart has a special ring

Red Rover Red Rover, let Grover come over

One missionary was a triple whammy,

Preach, pray, and sing, her name is Tammy

"My Valentine" Thank you Tammy, this girl can sing

She even overcame a jellyfish sting

Benny Hinn crusades to the barangays, do you think he outta?

Now we don't need Benny, we have faith healer Reuben Estrada

We had times of testing, chances to forgive, it's true

Like out of no where, "What's your problem? Yeah I'm talking to you."

Worshipper Teresa loves Jesus so much, it's easy to see

She loves whole foods like salads and broccoli

Kalah the joy bubble made many new friends

But this mission trip is not where it ends.

Kalah is called of God, what a beautiful story

Called to the nations to shine with God's glory

One of our team has so much love and cheer

California will be changed with the love of Susanne Shearer

To beloved Barbara, this visit is only the start

Your work has just begun, the people have captured your heart

Gary, Debbi, and Alyssa from heaven above

You're chosen of God as a family of love

Many gems in the kingdom, rubies, gold and the pearl

But a gem we all love dearly is our Diamond girl

Pastor Eric like an Energizer bunny that goes hop hop hop

All the barangay smile when they here chomp chomp chomp

I will leave tomorrow but come back soon

To ride the horse cart in the barangay with the Bishop June

Our taste buds tried new things, we have been set free

If it's fish, rice, and pork, pour on the Magee

Alyssa is so special, she will travel near and far

She has a special gift, tell us where the angels are

We experienced Sari Sari's and rode in the side car

We never knew what challenges would be for us as we entered the C.R.

Pastor Eric loves the hard Shiatsu massage, no pain no gain

He went on a shopping spree, bought his wife a surfer key chain

Evangelist Eric Moen, a man on the run, he makes serving God oh so much fun

After a nap and coffee, he never seems to stop

We salute our great leader, altogether "Pop Pop"

Gary and Debbi, two great friends I've gotten to know

They will gain the whole world and never lose their own soul

We prayed for government officials and schools, oh such fun

On to pray in the prison, always on the run

The prisoners brought their wares, it was a total ball

The team bought a few items, but Barbara bought it all

We met sweet Lucille, what a special friend

Now she is back to see us, we can now love her again

People came from the barangay, people from every sort

And God released his glory on the basketball court

God gave us miracles, signs, and wonders, it was a beautiful thing

And many new souls came home to the King

It is now time to leave, time to depart

But all of us leave part of our heart

We speak blessings to Cedric and Joy, let me tell you why

They have a labor of love to serve all the barangay.

We are thankful for all of you, we must go for a while

You have shown us God's glory with love and a smile

Our lives are all changed, we all agree this is true

God gave us the best, we dearly love you.
