Joan Rosalinda Moniz
Missionary to the Philippines
Isaiah 6:8 Then the Lord said, “Whom shall I send as a messenger to this people?
Who will go for Us?” I replied, “Here I am, Lord. Send me!”
My name is Joan R. Moniz, but everyone calls me Joni. I was one of the original members of River Rock Christian Fellowship in Truckee, CA. I have been doing short-term mission trips to the Philippines since 1997. My first trip was for 7 days. I was part of a dance team. I was so amazed by the response of the Filipino people; they were so hungry for Jesus. The only thing that discouraged me was that there was no follow up to make sure that the new believers got into a bible study or church. This really broke my heart at the time, but I just had to trust that God would do something about this. Five years later, I met Pastor Eric Moen and he took me on my third trip to the Philippines. I asked him point blank, “What about follow up?” I thanked God when I found out what a comprehensive follow up ministry that our team has in the Philippines. I was sent out by RRCF as a full-time missionary in 2008 and I am part of the follow up team. Praise God!
Pastor Eric Moen introduced me to the national director of Church Multiplication Coalition, Jill Boyonas. We are a coalition of kingdom-minded workers with one common vision: A Church in Every Barangay (Village).
The Philippines is the only Asian country known as a Christian nation. But with only 9% of the population truly Born Again and 62% of the villages not having a single Christian Church, CMC’s vision is the only way to reach the whole nation.
This vision is pursued through 2 ministries: Crusade Evangelism and a Cooperative Church planting Movement.
Crusade Evangelism: Teams of Missionaries from different nationalities work alongside a group of Local Pastors and hold crusade evangelism for the purpose of planting churches. As a rule, we only do evangelistic meetings in a village where a Pastor is pioneering a new work or in a village where a local Pastor wants to start a new church. Bible studies are also started after every crusade along with a free bible for each new believer. From this initial bible study, several home bible studies are started and eventually a church is formed (in most cases).
Church planting movement: Groups of local Pastors have covenanted to unite to advance Gods kingdom and work together to evangelize and plant churches in villages that do not have a church in their sphere of influence. They also work together to train and prepare leaders to become Pastors of the churches that will be planted as well as share material, physical and financial resources in these undertakings. The CMC vision is now embraced by over 2000 Pastors who are part of the 135 CMC Pastors Network and over 500 churches have already been planted through these endeavors.
